Woke up and weighed in at 201, a one pound difference from the day before and a total of four pounds since I started. I'm starting to grow concerned about the detox and whether or not it is coming or will even come. I'm supposed to feel somewhat nauseated, light headed with a headache.
Anyhow, as I noted earlier, I am going to try the Mean Green another shot. It wasn't as bad this time, but yeah...still pretty disgusting. I'm hoping that its an acquired taste...but thank goodness for mouthwash.

Day 2
I woke up this morning weighing in at 202 pounds and not feeling the effects of the detox. I wasn't really concerned because the long awaited detox illness I was waiting for occurs differently for everyone. Anyhow, this is the recipe I used for today.
Day 2 Recipe
Day 2 Recipe
- 8 Stalks of Kale
- 2 Handfuls of Spinach
- 8 Stalks of Celery
- 2 Medium Sized Pineapples
- 2 Green Apples
- 2 Small Sticks of Ginger
The Mean Green recipe I used for the first day was an awful taste so I thought I'd try sweeten it up by adding Pineapple. This wasn't that bad of drink actually. Tomorrow I'll give the Mean Green recipe another shot and report on that.

Day 1
So Ash Wednesday is here and its time to start my juice cleanse. I weighed in at 205 lbs this morning before my first drink of the fast. I made a batch that would last throughout the whole day because my juicer is very difficult to clean. For my first batch I used the following:
Recipe for a Mean Green
- 8 stalks of organic Celery
- 5 stalks of Kale
- 4 Granny Smith Apples
- 2 whole Cucumbers
- 2 pieces of Ginger
- 1 Whole Lemon (with the skin on)
The taste of this batch isn't all that bad actually. It made enough for three -16oz portions for the day. But for tomorrow's batch I plan on making more to provide more nutrients and protein that I'll surely need. Anyhow, the first day hunger pains have been pretty minimal so far. I think with a larger batch next time it may take care of my hunger issues.
In addition to the fast, I started with some very light running (only about a mile) or so. Anyhow I fear for the worst tomorrow because that's the dreaded day where I start feeling the effects of the detox doing its magic. I'll most likely feel nauseated with a headache, but at least I know its doing its job. Anyhow, I realize the struggle has just begun and I can't wait until Easter already.

That Time of Year Again
First off, I'd like to thank you for stopping by and following me through this experience. I lot of you already know that my this will document my journey through lent this year as I'm trying to sacrifice and make more changes to my daily habits and lifestyle than ever before. I'm extremely nervous for the next 40 days for all the mental and physical challenges I face a long the way.
Here's what challenges and changes I'd like to make to my life for the next 40 days.
Complete Sobriety
Drinking alcohol hasn't really been that big of an issue for me since I've graduated college. Not that its a pressing matter or difficult for me to sacrifice alcoholic beverages of any kind, its just something I'd like to keep increase my daily productivity.
Daily Exercise
I'd like to work my way into exercising daily to keep in shape and to stay at a healthy weight. My exercise routine will mainly consist of running and light lifting to become leaner. I enjoy running outdoors so my biggest challenge I face is the winter weather.
Attend Mass on Holy Days of Obligation
I've fallen out with my Catholic upbringing quite a bit since I've left mother's nest. I grew up in a family that attended Church weekly and it was a large part of my life and who I was. I'd like to start attending mass not only for the Lent season, but make a weekly habit out of it after Easter Sunday.
Vegan/Juice Cleanse Diet
This will be by far my biggest challenge I'll face during lent this year. A juice cleanse is the consumption of mainly liquefied green vegetables for the purpose of removing the toxins that meats and junk food leave in your body. In addition to he detoxifying part, it is extremely efficient for weight loss as well.
